Can I choose the hospital I'm evacuated to?

Short Answer

No, unfortunately, most policies including Medical Evacuation coverage do not cover you to choose which hospital you are evacuated to. In an emergency situation, you will be evacuated to the nearest adequate medical facility to be treated.

More Detail

Medical Evacuation provides coverage for transportation to the nearest adequate medical facility in the event of an unforeseen illness or injury on your trip. If you require more specialized treatment, you could be evacuated to another medical facility or, if necessary, back to your home country. This decision will be made between you, the attending physician, and the emergency assistance provider.

Some products offer Medical Evacuation to your hospital of choice. Medjet Assist and Air Ambulance Card will transport you to your hospital of choice if you are already hospitalized as an inpatient. The evacuation from the point of injury to the hospital are not covered by these products, only the transportation between hospitals.
