What is the difference between Trip Cancellation and Cancel For Any Reason?

Short Answer

Standard Trip Cancellation reimburses 100% of your trip cost if you cancel for one of the covered reasons within the policy up until the day before your departure. Cancel For Any Reason is a time-sensitive, optional upgrade that provides up to 75% reimbursement of your trip cost in the event of a cancellation for any reason not otherwise covered within the standard Trip Cancellation coverage, up until 2-3 days before your departure.

More Detail

Standard Trip Cancellation coverage reimburses 100% of insured prepaid and nonrefundable trip costs, and allows you to insure all, some, or none of your trip costs. This benefit provides coverage to cancel due to a covered reason. Common covered reasons to cancel include unforeseen illness, injury, or death of a traveler, traveling companion or non-traveling family member. Policies including this coverage can be purchased up until the day before your departure. This benefit allows you to cancel your trip up until your departure.

Cancel for Any Reason is a time-sensitive upgrade, meaning in order to be eligible for coverage, the policy must be purchased within 14-30 days of your initial booking date. This benefit requires you to insure 100% of your prepaid and nonrefundable trip costs, and can reimburse up to 75% of these trip costs. Additionally, you are required to cancel your trip at least 2-3 days before your departure in order to be covered. The Cancel For Any Reason benefit typically increases the premium by about 40%.
